Location : 2159 M above mean-sea -level. The town is situated on the Himalayas at a distance of 45 KM South-East of Shiml. The distance from Kalka (BroadGuage Railhead) is 84 KM and one can reach Chail via Kandaghat (on Kalka-Shimla road). The road is all wather metalled and drive is comfortable.
General description :: A hill station situated at an altitude of 2159 M. The winter is very cool and comfortable in rest of the year.
Places of interest : Maharaja of Patiala built a summer house at this quite resort set in thick green wood in 1891. There are three hills at Chail. The highest cricket ground in the world built in 1893 is situated at on of the hills. The Summer Palace is on the 2nd and a Sikh Temple on the 3rd hill. Chail is popularly known as the Little Mountains Heaven. The Chail Santuary, once the hunting ground of the kings, is a paradise of bird watchers even now. The visitors need to obtain permission from the Range Office at the entrance. Himalayan black bear, wild boar, ghorial, moonjak, leopard chir, khalij, etc., can be seen from the watch tower in the santuary.
