LOCATION: Manali is 40 KM north of Kullu along the National Highway (NH)-21, the district HQ, 293 KM north from Shimla and on an altitude of 2050 M. The road from Chandigarh goes to Manali via Ropar, Mandi and Kullu. The mountain roads from Shimla also join the Chandigarh-Manali HIghway at Sundarnagar and Mandi. From Manali it goes further north towards Leh in Ladakh via Gramphoo after crossing Rotang Pass. The road from Kalpa to Kaza via Kumjum Pass meets at Gramphoo. The river Beas flows from north to south by the side of Manali. Now the town has extended on western bank of the river also. It is quite serene hill town with lots of greenery of Pine , Ceder, etc., and surrounded by snow capped mountains.
